A Little Bit About Me...

Hi!  Thank you so much for checking out my website - eeek!  I can't believe I have a website - with music and pics!  Ahhh.  Ok - sorry just had to have a moment of excitement.  Moving right on to what you clicked this link for...

My name is Erika Amy Olson.  I live in a village in East Sussex with my hubby and 3 children.  We moved this way after three amazing years in London.  Our adventure in the UK began over 4 years ago now when we moved across the Atlantic from Charlotte, North Carolina.

I am a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, an auntie, a friend, a rebel, a seeker, a light chaser, a book reader, an activist, a philanthropist, an attorney, a dancer, a baker, a music lover, a nature nut, a truth sayer and among many other things a singer and a songwriter.  I write songs about life as I have lived it, seen it, heard it, and felt it.

I picked up a guitar for about ten minutes when I was 17 and because I wasn't instantly amazing - I quit.  But music always had a hold on my heart.  I was a staple on the college couch concert circuit - not a Friday or Saturday passed without me belting some Indigo Girls' tune.  Every road trip came with homemade cookies and a bespoke mixtape.  After crossing the US a time or two I settled down to the serious business of law school and then a very serious litigation practice.  I loved practicing law and was content with the ins and outs of a busy legal career - until - I had my first baby.  The act of creating, birthing, and sustaining a life changed me forever.  I was overcome with the need to continue creating - in some way shape or form.  So, six months after my son was born, I picked up the guitar again and this time - it stuck.

After a few years my guitar teacher suggested I attend The Swannanoa Gathering - super awesome time, totally recommend it.  I signed up late and was assigned to the few classes with openings - one of which was a songwriting class.  Songwriting was the last class of the day, so I figured if I didn't like it I could just use the time from some napping and lord knows I needed some naps with a 2 and 4 year old at home.  Unfortunately, the napping would have to wait!  From the very first moment I was hooked.  I started several songs that week and fell in love with the soul work of songwriting.   7 years later, here I am, still writing, still playing and still singing - but now I get to do it with you!!  How great is that!!!!

In addition to music, I am working to develop a podcast called Momma Ain't Got No Time through which I will explore creativity in the midst of the muck and mire of motherhood.  I will be talking to intrepid artists, musicians, and creatives of any an all type that brave the creative currents while holding it down on the parenting front.  I want to know how mommas do it - don't you?  I want to know how mommas juggle the babes, the art, the dishes, the partners - 'ya know - the whole shebang.  I'm gonna ask how mommas keep shining their light when life gets hard and complicated - as it's want to do when raising little humans.  I need to hear the the answers so that I can keep shining my light and hopefully sharing these conversations will help anyone listening to shine their light too!

Please sign up for my mailing list and I will keep you posted on all music and podcast news!  I am so deeply grateful for your interest in what I'm making and I cannot wait to share more.  Let's shine our loving light into the dark places and see what grows!!  xoxo
